Hopefully everyone is enjoying their bank holiday weekend!
No doubt there's the likelihood of feasting and extra drinking when meeting up with friends and family so here are a few things to help yourselves with:
🔹If you're going out or holding a gathering and know there might be the opportunity of going overboard in food, eat a healthy filling meal beforehand to stop yourself from getting hungry and picking at foods or making the wrong choices.
🔹A different way to deal with the above if you want to eat the food and enjoy yourself is to lower your carbs/fats for the rest of the day and stick to protein and veg for your meals. This automatically drops calories so you can let yourself indulge a bit later. Be sure to get enough protein in every meal (1 palm size for women, 2 palm sizes for men).
🔹Download the free My Fitness Pal app on your phone and enter in what you eat. You'll be surprised at how quickly the calories mount up and it may help keep you in control during the day or remind you that you really must stop now!
🔹Increase your activity. Get some extra steps in (more info on steps later) by avoiding sitting for long periods and getting a walk in or even better, do some exercise over the weekend to burn off some of the extra calories.
🔹If you're drinking, stick to wines or spirits and stay away from beer, liqueurs and cocktails which are extremely high in calories. With spirits, be careful of your mixers - use diet/sugar free options.
